FireShot is a very simple and clear gagine. Its based on SDL so its cross-platform ... blah ... blah ... blah. You're probably asking "Why the hell does the world need another game engine?". The world needs another game engine because many game engines are awesome in the sense that they have tons of features, but most of them are pretty hard to deal with, especially when something goes wrong. FireShot is meant to be very easy to use, but not making everything so high level that you don't have any control over the code anymore. Right now, its not much, just mouse clicks and keys but in the future, its going to have features that make it easier to write games quickly and painlessly (except for making the images ;), such as event based object collision. Developers are very much welcome, especially for writing documentation and making Makefiles.
